The book has sixty five black and white photographs that were shot by artist Jyoti Bhatt over decades, and were part of an exhibition presented by The Guild art gallery. Essay in the book is by artist, activist, curator and photographer Ram Rahman. An index at the back gives full details of the photographs.

“That Jyotibhai was conversant with Stieglitz was no surprise. Unlike most Indian photographers, he had trained as an artist under highly qualified artists, and had an extensive training in art history. He had seen ‘The Family of Man’ – the photography exhibition curated by Edward Steichen for the Museum of Modern Art in both Ahmedabad and Bombay in the late 1950s. Jyoti cites this as the most influential and important photography exhibition he had seen. He has spoken of how the varying scale of the images and the underlying narrative of that exhibit made him realise the narrative power of photography. His two years at the Pratt Institute in New York studying printmaking between 1964-66 enabled him to see many excellent exhibitions of photography at MoMA in New York.” – Ram Rahman
